Reflect on your experiences creating Project A from start to finish.
What can I say about Project A other than that I am completely relieved that is completed. Although I have been working with online courses doing just about all kinds of jobs related to eLearning, I had not done a project where I had to analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation, using the ADDIE design model. This was a new scary territory for me. I think if I had seen examples of each step of the ADDIE model, it would have been very helpful and some of the anxiety could have been avoided. I know that every project is different because we are all working with different clients and with different topics but still, seeing any example could have made a difference.
What worked and what did not?
I wish some assignments could have been easier to understand. I had a really hard time with the analysis documentation and it was mostly that I wasn’t sure what I needed to create. I feel that the examples in the book are mostly for those who work in corporate offices and are not ideal for those of us who work in educational institutions. So if I were to say something didn’t work for me, I would have to say the book.
What do you think was the strongest aspect of the design process? The weakest?
The strongest aspect of the design process was my previous experience creating courses in Blackboard. The weakest area was not fully comprehending what my client had in mind. I felt she gave me a lot of information the times we met but I wasn’t getting a clear picture of the concept of the project. Another weak area was the time limitation placed on this project but I understand the limitation.
How do you think the experience will affect you on Project B?
I think having completed Project A from beginning to end puts me in a very good place. I can use all of the new tools I have learned and apply them to this new project. I might even be able to do the work a little bit faster and with more confidence. I also hope I have learned from the mistakes I made in Project A and will be able to avoid some of the pitfalls. One of those mistakes was not being more forceful and opinionated. Had I done that in Project A, I would have saved myself a lot of grief. I’m excited about the new project!
